It takes a long time to make a scarf, and this does the job just as well. I used a little less than one skein of Knit Picks Sierra, which is a bit scratchy, but very sturdy. Withstands many a frogging and still looks like new.
The bottom ruffle is modified from a stitch pattern in Knitting on the Edge by Nicky
Epstein, which is an awesome book. I was trying one of the ruffles, and er, messed it up,
but liked how it looked for what I was thinking of for this neck warmer.
The top picot edge is made while casting off, and I'm quite proud of it.
4 st. per inch
Size 8 circular needles.

11. Rep row 7
12. K3, loosely purl to last 3 st, k3 (you'll want to purl a little looser to make it
easier to decrease on the next row)
13. K4, *k3tog; rep from * to last 6 st, k2tog, k4
62 stitches
14. k3, purl to last 3 st, k3
15. Button hole row: K1, yo, k2tog, k across
Keeping the first and last 3 stitches in garter stitch for edge, work in st stitch for
next 5 rows
Buttonhole row (RS): K1, yo, k2tog, k across
Repeat these last 6 rows until you have 4 buttonholes.
Next row: (WS) K across
Next row: K across
Bind off row: K2, *turn, purl those two stitches, turn, knit 2, bind off 1, k 1, bo 1, k1
(2 stitches on the right needle again), rep from * ending bind off last two (I have to
test this, it's how I remember it ending. By the time you get to the last two stitches
you'll be able to figure it out, I'm sure.)
Try not to overthink the bind-off, and don't watch any riveting tv while you do it. The
neckwarmer will want to curl, so block it so each little picot on the top edge stands up
nicely. I just pulled the ruffles on the bottom edge down and pinned them in a row, not
flaired out. The Sierra blocked beautifully with no more rolling.
