House Mittens

House mittens

These mittens are huge, since I didn't take the time to check my gauge.
The pattern came in the mail with an ad for Knit Simple magazine. I've seen the magazine and don't want it coming to my house on a regular basis, but I was happy to get the pattern since I'm still plodding along on my cardigan and wanting to knit, just not that darn sweater.  It's just a basic mitten pattern, you could easily find a similar one on the internet.

I tossed the pattern onto the bar to start the next day, and some Gryffindor color yarn was all stuffed up there beside the fish tank and it seemed like fate that they should be house mittens. Of course, I squealed out loud.

They were really meant to match, but I was just so bored after the first one, I didn't think I could manage another. I didn't want one mitten taunting me though, like my one sock does, so I thought a different color would make it more interesting.
It did! And they're pretty cute! I'll never make matching mittens again!

These are Red Heart Supersaver, with which I don't actually have too much of a beef.  It pretty much tells you right on the label that you get what you pay for.
It comes in a load of colors, is $2.17, and you cannot get rid of it.  With one skein, I made an adult size ear flap hat with the yarn doubled, an amigurumi bunny, used it in a striped scarf, and as the main color in a toddler vest. So, yeah, if you're looking for quantity...
It's also very stiff and just sort of gross.

Anyway, I love mittens and am going to eventually make these again in a nicer yarn and smaller size.
