These little cats just want to laze around on a polka dot background amidst a bunch of daisies.

I just ate a canary.

I am only two inches tall.
Patterns!
Yarn: I used worsted weight acrylic for both. For the big one I also used an extremely thin fuzzy yarn along side the worsted, but you don't have to.
Hook: I used a G or H. Gauge isn't important. Bigger hook, bigger kitty. If you can handle making these guys in thread with a steel hook, they will be miniscule, and I'll need to see pictures.
Another note about these. They are really easy, no harder than crocheting a hat. Just
about all amigurumi is balls and tubes. You can really customize these in any way you
want-add little snouts or make long ears. They can have really long arms or stumpy ones.
You can make them huge or tiny. You can give them a little house sweater by changing
colors in the chest area and at the tops of the arms.
Once you get a little confidence, you can make all sorts of critters. Try amigurumi.jp for inspiration.
Little Kitty
You're starting at the top of its head and working down in one piece, attaching the ears last. You'll be working continuously without joining. Use a stitch marker and move it up every round.
Ch. 4, join to form a ring
Ch.1 (counts as single crochet), 7 sc in ring. (8 sc)
*Sc 1(this is where you'll place your marker to keep track of your rounds. Keep moving it
up at every first stitch of a new round), 2sc in next stitch, rep from* around. (12 sc)
*sc 2, 2sc in next stitch, rep from* around. (16 sc)
*sc 3, 2sc in next stitch, rep from* around. (20 sc)
Work even (sc in every sc) for 3 rounds.
Next round: *sc 3, dec 1, rep from * around. (16 sc)
You can start stuffing with fiberfill now. I like to make these really firm, they just
hold their shape better. Keep adding more stuffing as you close it up, I stuff it in there
with the eraser end of a pencil before I close up the body. *sc2, dec 1, rep from *
around. (12 sc)
*sc 1, dec 1, rep from * around. (8 sc)
Work even for 4 rounds, then dec around as best you can. This is fiddly and you don't have
to go all the way around. Just get the hole closed up. Cut the yarn and thread it on a
yarn needle. (If you only have those giant plastic needles you may end up swearing. I
recommend the smaller metal ones. There's a vast selection in the embroidery section.)
Weave the tail through a few times.
Ears (make two)
Chain 3, hdc in third chain from hook. Fasten off and turn sideways so the hdc is laying
across the bottom, where it will attach to the head. Sew on the ears with the yarn ends.
Little kitty ear:

Big Cat
This one is done in pieces, then all the pieces are sewn together.
Head
Ch 4, join to make a ring.
Ch 1 (counts as sc), 5 sc in ring. (6 sc)
2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
*1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, rep from * around. (18 sc)
*2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, rep from * around. (24 sc)
*3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, rep from * around. (30 sc)
*4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, rep from * around. (36 sc)
*5 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, rep from * around. (42 sc)
(for a bigger head, keep increasing in this manner, add more even rounds and decrease
correspondingly after your even rounds)
Work even for 6 rounds.
*5 sc, dec in next two stitches, rep from * around. (36 sc)
*4 sc, dec in next two stitches, rep from * around. (30 sc)
You can probably start stuffing about here. Keep adding fiberfill as you go, to make it
nice and firm.
*3 sc, dec in next two stitches, rep from * around. (24 sc)
*2 sc, dec in next two stitches, rep from * around. (18 sc)
*1 sc, dec in next two stitches, rep from * around. (12 sc)
Fasten off and leave a yarn tail.
Body
Ch 12, join to form a ring.
Ch 1 (counts as sc), sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
Work even for 6 rounds, or as long as you want the body to be.
Decrease around until it's as closed up. Like above, this doesn't have to be perfect, just
get it closed.
Stuff that bad boy and using one of the yarn tails, sew it to the head opening.
Legs and Arms (make two of each)
For the arms:
Ch 5, join to make a ring.
Ch 1 (counts as sc) 4 sc around (5 sc). Work even for about 3 more rounds for a cute
little stumpy arm. It's a pain working in the round with just five stitches, but
life is pain, princess.
Keep going if you want longer arms. You shouldn't have to stuff these. Fasten off leaving
a tail for sewing.
For the legs:
Ch 8, join to form a ring.
Ch 1 (counts as sc), 7 sc around. (8 sc). As for the arms, work even until they are the
length you want them. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Could this be any easier? Sew them on where you think they look cute, using the yarn ends.
Ears (make two)
Chain 4, 3 dc in fourth chain from hook. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing, turn
on their sides so last dc is laying against the head. Sew.
For their faces, you can embroider directly onto the heads, or embroider onto felt or other fabric, then sew that onto the head. They're your toys. You play with them however you want.

Just fiddle around with different ear shapes and you have different animals.
